Ellen Van Parys

My name is Ellen Van Parys, and I am a passionate equine osteopath. From a young age, I have been fascinated by animals and their health. My curiosity even led me, as a child, to perform dissections on organs given to me by the farmer whenever a chicken or pig was slaughtered on the farm. I wanted to understand how everything worked and how I could help animals.
My original dream was to become a veterinarian. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, that dream did not come true. However, the years of study and my knowledge of anatomy led me to the field of human orthopedics, where for 10 years, I enthusiastically provided perioperative technical advice to surgeons during joint prosthesis placements. Once again, it was the combination of biomechanics and anatomy that captivated me.
Like most people, I occasionally visited an osteopath for back pain. But when an osteopath managed to treat several issues that conventional medicine couldn’t resolve, my interest was piqued. I decided to delve deeper into the field, and suddenly, all the pieces of the puzzle came together. This led me to study equine osteopathy at the world-renowned Vluggen Institute in Germany.
My love for horses and my knowledge of both animal and human anatomy come together perfectly in my work as an osteopath.
What is Equine Osteopathy?
Equine osteopathy is a holistic approach to the health of horses.
Osteopaths view the body as an integrated whole and recognize that physical, emotional, and environmental factors influence health.
They not only address specific symptoms but also look for the underlying causes, always considering the horse's overall well-being. This can only be achieved when the various body systems are in balance and functioning optimally.
Optimal function depends on proper alignment and mobility of tissues (muscles, bones, organs, etc.). This ensures unrestricted blood flow and nerve supply, enabling the body to rely on its inherent self-regulating and self-healing abilities. Osteopathy aims to support and enhance these mechanisms.
Osteopathy goes far beyond simply “cracking” joints. Through gentle manual techniques and joint mobilizations, the equine osteopath addresses a wide range of issues, such as back pain, stiffness, myofascial pain, reduced mobility, irregular movement, difficulty bending, headshaking, head-shy behavior, and more.

What can an equine osteopath help with?
An equine osteopath provides support for a wide range of issues and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, respiratory system, digestion, nervous system, and the overall health of your horse.
As an experienced equine osteopath, I am dedicated with passion to the well-being and optimal health of horses.
My approach combines in-depth knowledge of biomechanics, myofascial kinetic lines, and innovative techniques such as frequency-specific microcurrent therapy. This allows me to not only detect and treat movement restrictions, but also address subtle connections in the body that are essential for recovery and peak performance.
With gentle and effective techniques tailored to the individual needs of each horse, I offer customized treatments that contribute to flexibility, balance, and long-lasting vitality. Whether it's for sport horses, recreational horses, or horses with specific issues, I am here to help you get the best out of your horse.
